Calm, Controlled Dog Class

Four Weeks

$145

When: Schedule varies. Click here for upcoming offerings.

Where: Da Paws Place in Rochester, Wa.

Prerequisite: None

Who, What & Why: Leslie McDevitt wrote a book called Control Unleashed: Creating a Focused and Confident Dog. We love it, so we created a class to help you with your anxious, uncomfortable, shut down, easily distracted, easily aroused, impulse-control-lacking, 0ver-excited, over-stimulated or just-about-over-everything dog.

Using some the techniques from Control Unleashed, as well as some of our own, we’ll help them learn to “turn it off” and channel that excitement behavior into things more helpful and productive. And, let’s face it – less likely to drive you crazy! It’s a win-win.

You’ll work on the following concepts and behaviors: how dogs learn, what a calm dog looks like; the concept of threshold versus sub-threshold; conditioning emotional responses; mental stimulation and physical activity; reinforcing calm; calming and redirection games; tools to take on the road and working in new spaces.

We hope you’ll join us for this fun class!

Get Down! Anti-Jumping Semi-Private Class

Three Weeks

$95

When: Schedule varies. Click here to see the schedule.

Where: About 1.5 miles off of Exit 95 via I-5 – location details will be emailed upon registration.

Prerequisite: None

Who, What & Why: Dogs love to jump! They like to jump on our work clothes, on little kids, on our backs, nab us in the nose when we’re bending over to pet them – you name it. If your dog’s jumping is driving you crazy, let’s get you some help. This is a great class to “proof” your skills from other classes you’ve taken with us, or if you haven’t taken a class at all. Everybody will be at a different level with different issues, anyway! With this class, you’ll learn:

-How to prevent your dog from jumping and set them up to be more successful
-How dogs learn and how to improve your communication with them
-What to do when your dog jumps on immediate family members
-What to do when your dog jumps on guests or strangers

What You Get:
-Individualized help in a small group (semi-private) setting
-A customized HDI clicker
-Written materials in PDF format
-A dog-free planning session (the first class), where each person will leave with an individualized training plan for their dog
-The opportunity to practice both with your dog and other people’s dogs. We’ll work on different scenarios like door manners, going on walks, coming home from work, etc.

Bringing an extra adult to class for sessions 2 and 3 will be paramount to the success of the program.

Please note that this class isn’t a good fit for dogs who are fearful and/or reactive.
